Award in Digital Skills and IT
This course forms part of our Digital Skills for Work programme, helping you to further develop the digital skills needed for modern day-to-day life, learning and the workplace.

It is designed for adults with some experience of using digital devices and the internet but who also want to increase their digital skills, and gain a recognised qualification to show employers they have the digital skills that are required for the workplace.

Throughout the course you will build upon your existing knowledge to learn more about using a range of programmes, creating and editing for a range of purposes.

Upon successful completion of this course you will achieve a Award in Digital and IT Skills at Level 2

By the end of the course you should be able to:
• Be able to create and edit information in word processed documents for specific purposes.
• Be able to modify style and layout to enhance document presentation.
• Be able to proof and print documents.
• Understand the features of spreadsheet software and howspreadsheets are used.
• Be able to create a spreadsheet to improve productivity.
• Be able to review and refine a spreadsheet to improve usability.

Throughout the course your tutor will assess your progress through a range of activities and you will record your progress through your Individual Learning Plan (ILP), where your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

Outside of class, you will need to dedicate time on a weekly basis to complete tasks set by your tutor.

In order to successfully achieve this qualification you will create a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the required criteria.

Before enrolling you on this course, you will need to complete a skills assessment to ensure that this is the correct level for you.
You will need:
• Level 1 English skills
• Level 1 Digital skills

If you don’t yet meet the pre-course requirements, we may recommend other courses which will support you to progress and achieve your goal.

Your course will start with a two-week introduction which will develop your digital study skills and assess your suitability to study towards an exam-based qualification.

• You will be expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course. Please do not book holidays in term time and let us know of any planned absences before you start the course. If you do not attend for 2 consecutive sessions, without prior notice you may be withdrawn, and this will reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.

• Learners may complete an Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey to help us identify and support these needs appropriately.

• We use a mixture of classroom based and online learning for classwork and homework.

Yes. There are various ways to support your learning, subject to your individual circumstance and type of programme, please ask your tutor or the centre staff for more information on the following:
• Additional funding to pay for resources.
• Laptop, Loan and Learn scheme
• Homework Club
• Additional support within the classroom

After completing this course you could progress to:
• Level 2 Certificate in Digital Skills and IT
• Higher level IT courses with another College.
• volunteering with Learn Hillingdon Adult Community Education or another community organisation.

Your tutor will be able to provide you with information about the most appropriate next steps for you.

This course is designed to improve your basic digital skills and confidence and could form the first steps of your pathway to develop your digital skills for everyday life, learning and work.

You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, surveys and our 3 Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices.

You may also choose to become a course representative for your class. Course Representatives can then stand for election onto our Learner Council

To ensure that our learners can communicate with each other safely we offer a variety of functions in Google suite. We strongly discourage the use of other social media groups such as Whatsapp, which rely on personal data being shared.
