Spanish Preliminary - Stage 1
This course builds on your existing knowledge to equip you with additional language skills that can be used in day to day conversation and situations; including revision of personal information, the world of work, descriptions of people/family (physical and personality) and hobbies/leisure.

You will also recognise and be able to produce grammar and linguistic structures using the present and perfect tenses, possessive and comparative adjectives, agreement of adjectives and nouns and opinion/personal pronouns.

Open What will I learn?

By the end of the course you should be able to:
• Identify the main points and some of the detail from a spoken passage made up of familiar language in simple sentences
• Take part in a simple conversation and express opinions
• Identify the main points and some of the detail from short written texts in familiar contexts
• Write a short text on a familiar topic, adapting language which you have already learnt

Open How will I be assessed?

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, tasks and exercises and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

You will record your progress on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP), including reflecting on your wellbeing and personal goals.

Open What experience or qualifications do I need to start this course?

This course follows on from our Breakthrough - Stage 2 course. Before enrolling for this course, you should have completed at least 60 hours of learning the language.

Open Important Information

• You will be expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course. Please do not book holidays in term time and let us know of any planned absences before you start the course. If you do not attend for 2 consecutive sessions, without prior notice you may be withdrawn, and this will reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.

• Learners may complete an Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey to help us identify and support these needs appropriately.

• We use a mixture of classroom based and online learning for classwork and homework.

Open Is there anything I need to bring? Are there any other costs?

Please bring pen, paper and a folder for any handouts. Cost Involved: £20-£30 for a course book/CD which you will be advised of at the first session. Please do not purchase any items before the first session.

Open Can I get extra help?

Yes. There are various ways to support your learning, subject to your individual circumstance and type of programme, please ask your tutor or the centre staff for more information on the following:
• Additional funding to pay for resources.
• Laptop, Loan and Learn scheme
• Homework Club
• Additional support within the classroom

Languages are a fantastic employability skill, developing your skills further may enhance your CV and improve your employment prospects. This the course will also support you to develop transferrable employability skills including communication, team-working and time-management skills.

You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, surveys and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices.

You may also choose to become a course representative for your class. Course Representatives can then stand for election onto our Learner Council
