Healthy Eating - Making healthy lunches - Term 3
The intention of this course is to improve your maths skills, health and wellbeing through food preparation. You will develop healthy eating habits and confident decision making. The course will teach you how to prepare healthy meals for lunch. Health and safety, English, maths and digital skills will be embedded in the course.

Throughout this course you will develop, practice and consolidate some or all of the skills below with or without support:
-Discuss healthy lunch options and agree as a team at least two that you would like to prepare this term. (using the internet, NHS healthy lunch ideas or from recipe books etc)
-Measure the correct amount of healthy ingredients required for your recipe e.g. count, use cups, spoons (teaspoon, tablespoon) etc
-Monitor cooking time in seconds, minutes or hours using appropriate tools e.g egg or sand timer, set alarms
-Follow instructions using simple maths language as appropriate (e.g. add, take away, divide, halve, double, more, less)
-Complete your storyboard or portfolio with recipes and/or photographs of healthy lunches you have prepared this term.

Progress of your work will be assessed throughout the course by your tutor through your contribution to classwork, taking part in discussions, observations, practical cooking tasks, your increasing awareness of healthy lunches and creating a file (portfolio of work) or a storyboard. Your progress will be recorded on individual learning plans (ILPs) and you will have tutorials with your tutor.
Depending on the work you produce on this course, photographs might be displayed in our centres or at the Festival of Learning event at the end of the year.

You will need to want to increase your knowledge in this subject.
You should be able to respond to simple instructions and participate in the class activities in your own way and these can be with support if required.

• You will be expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course. Please do not book holidays in term time and let us know of any planned absences before you start the course. If you do not attend for 2 consecutive sessions, without prior notice you may be withdrawn, and this will reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.

• Learners may complete an Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey to help us identify and support these needs appropriately.

• We use a mixture of classroom based and online learning for classwork and homework.

You may need a supply of paper, pens and a ring binder. Please do not purchase any items before the first session. Your tutor will let you know what you need to bring. We would like to encourage you to bring your own healthy snacks and refreshments.
Yes. There are various ways to support your learning, subject to your individual circumstance and type of programme, please ask your tutor or the centre staff for more information on the following:
• Additional funding to pay for resources.
• Laptop, Loan and Learn scheme
• Homework Club
• Additional support within the classroom

You can consider expanding the cooking and food preparation skills you have developed on this course through some of the other courses we offer in various subjects e.g. Dinner for One, Healthy eating. Alternatively you can supplement your skills through courses like "Look after your home" or "Household skills". Your teacher will discuss this with you as you progress through this course.

There are no specific job opportunities, however this course will allow you to build on the practical skills you have developed. We also have other courses in various subjects which you might find useful to extend and improve your employability skills such as communication and working as part of a team. Your teacher will discuss this with you as you progress through the course.

• You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, surveys and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices.
• You may also choose to become a course representative for your class. Course Representatives can then stand for election onto our Learner Council

• We want you to enjoy your learning experience and feel safe, equal and respected while you are here with us. If you have any concerns, please report it to a member of staff or directly to a Designated Safeguarding Officer as soon as possible.

• To ensure that our learners can communicate with each other safely we offer a variety of functions in Google suite. We strongly discourage the use of other social media groups such as Whatsapp, which rely on personal data being shared.
