Care Level 2 Diploma
This learning programme is designed for learners who want to have a career working in the care sector and is suitable for those that want to work within the NHS and private care facilities. The Level 2 Diploma in Care will support learner's to develop their knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in adult care environments.
The course covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and wellbeing, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures.
You will be able to improve your Skills for Work at Level 1 (employability) and obtain a qualification that will enable you to progress onto higher level learning programmes.

By the end of the learning programme, you should be able to -
• Describe the roles and responsibilities of the care professional.
• Explain the importance of effective communication in the care sector.
• Identify the legislation that relates to the handling of secure information in care settings.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the person centred approach.
• Describe the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion in care.
• Outline how to assist in maintaining healthy, safe and secure working environments in the health and care sector.
• Demonstrate an understanding of 'duty of care'.
• Explain the principles of safeguarding.
• Develop and improve digital and skills to prepare for work.

Your work will be assessed throughout the learning programme by your tutor. You will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding about working within the health & social care sector. You will also be required to complete portfolios of evidence in Skills for Work (Employability Studies Level 1 Award). You will be supported throughout the course to enable you to produce portfolio work which will include a wide range of evidence methods such as written tasks, case studies and work products to meet the assessment criteria.

Outside of class, you will need to dedicate time on a weekly basis to complete tasks and your portfolio of evidence set by your tutor. You should be prepared to spend at least 2 to 3 hours per week on homework

You will need to attend a skills assessment before you can enrol on this learning programme. You do not need any formal qualifications to apply, however, you will need to be able to use both written and spoken English to at least a Level 1 standard.
You will also need good Digital Skills, this is essential to be able to successfully participate in online sessions as you will be required to work on online platforms such as Google Classroom and Moodle. Learners may be offered additional English, maths and digital support where appropriate.

Please note this course requires a work/ volunteering placement for at least 6 hours per week in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in health and adult care environments. We will need to come to your workplace to carry out workplace skills observations, so will need to see proof of your placement before you enrol on your course. As part of working or volunteering in the health and social care sector, you will need to complete a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check with your employer as part of this process.

• You will be expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course. Please do not book holidays in term time and let us know of any planned absences before you start the course. If you do not attend for 2 consecutive sessions, without prior notice you may be withdrawn, and this will reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.

The completion of this course could lead to work opportunities, dependent on employer requirements and relevant experience. Progression onto a Level 3 course would enhance your opportunities. Salary ranges in the health & social care sectors:
Care Worker - £14,000 to £25,000 per annum
Senior Care Worker - £17,000 to £27,000 per annum
Care Manager - £25,000 to £55,000 per annum
Healthcare Assistant - £20,270 to £26,282 per annum
Health Records Clerk - £18,546 to £24,882 per annum
Medical Administrator/ Secretary - £17,500 to £24,000 per annum
Hospital Porter - £20,270 to £21,318 per annum
Social Work Assistant / Community Support Worker - £18,200 to £28,000 per annum
