Intro Into Childminding
The purpose of this course is to prepare you to set up a home-based childcare setting or be employed in home-based roles such as childminding assistants. As well as gaining new knowledge relevant to childcare, such as safeguarding and children’s learning and development, this course will support you to develop the necessary skills to meet registration requirements to set up a home-based childcare service such as developing policies and procedures. You will also learn basic business skills, including writing a business plan and learn about financial and taxation requirements associated with a home-based childcare business. Completion of this course will enable prospective childminders to register with Ofsted as a home-based childcare provider.

By the end of the proramme you shuld be able to Demonstrate an understanding of current legislation and regulation in relation to home-based childcare and lead and manage the setting.
• Know how to establish a safe and healthy home-based childcare environment including safeguarding, protection and welfare.
• Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and partnership working.
• Plan day-to-day care routines promote children’s well-being and promote children’s learning and development.
• Support children’s learning and behaviour in relation to sequence, rate and stage of development.
• Understand the role of observation in promoting children’s learning and development.
• Be able to create a business plan and register with the appropriate regulatory body and comply with financial and taxation requirements.

The course is continuously assessed by your tutor. They will use a variety of assessment methods such as written assignments, professional discussions, case studies and question and answer sessions to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. You will also complete portfolios in English and Employability.

You will need to attend a skills assessment before you can enrol. You do not need any formal qualifications however, you will need to be able to use both written and spoken English to at least Level 1 standard.You will also need basic Digital Skills, this is essential to be able to successfully participate in online sessions as you will be required to work on online platforms such as Google Classroom and Moodle. Learners may be offered additional English, Maths and digital support where appropriate

• You will be expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course. Please do not book holidays in term time and let us know of any planned absences before you start the course. If you do not attend for 2 consecutive sessions, without prior notice you may be withdrawn, and this will reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.

• Learners may complete an Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey to help us identify and support these needs appropriately.

• We use a mixture of classroom based and online learning for classwork and homework.

You will need a note pad and pen for your first session and your tutor will advise you on further materials if needed (Please do not purchase any materials before the first session).

• You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, surveys and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices.
• You may also choose to become a course representative for your class. Course Representatives can then stand for election onto our Learner Council

• We want you to enjoy your learning experience and feel safe, equal and respected while you are here with us. If you have any concerns, please report it to a member of staff or directly to a Designated Safeguarding Officer as soon as possible.

• To ensure that our learners can communicate with each other safely we offer a variety of functions in Google suite. We strongly discourage the use of other social media groups such as Whatsapp, which rely on personal data being shared.

You will be able to pay by cash, card or cheque (made payable to London Borough of Hillingdon). Depending on your personal circumstances many of our courses could be fully funded, so please do contact a centre to discuss fees and fee concessions.
