Intermediate Floristry Certificate Level 2
The intent of this course is to widen knowledge, improve your creative and employability skills and enhance your professional portfolio. This course is designed for those who have completed the Level 1 Award in Creative Craft or who have had sufficient industry experience. You are required to complete BKSB online English, Maths and IT Initial assessments.
A 30 week evening programme resulting in a City and Guilds, Level 2 Certificate in Floristry. A certificate consists of three units taken from the ten units full Diploma and an online multiple choice exam.
Candidates are shown a variety of basic skills and techniques to enable them to construct a varied range of floral arrangements and Wedding work. Candidates will also cover the elements and principles of floral design. English, Maths and Digital Skills will be embedded in the course.
All classes are asked to complete the Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey at the beginning and end of their course. This enables us to see whether learning has a positive impact on wellbeing and it also enables us to identify and help people who need support.
Please note: All learners are expected to attend 100% of their course and arrive 15 minutes before their class starts. If you do not attend for 3 consecutive weeks, you may be withdrawn. This will also reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.
You will also need to ensure that you allow sufficient time for self-study and complete any homework set, we would recommend 2 – 3 hours per week.

At the end of the course, you will have learnt to -
• Adhere to health and safety requirements in the workshop.
● Identify a variety of flowers and foliage.
● Demonstrate correct conditioning techniques of plant materials.
● Unit 201: Introduction to art and design for florists.
● Unit 206: Plan, prepare and construct floral arrangements in foam.
● Unit 207: Plan, prepare and construct wedding designs with floral materials.
● Recognise processes used within the floristry industry.
● Cost designs for sale.
● Demonstrate employability skills.
● Produce a portfolio of work consisting of photographic and written evidence
● Complete online multiple choice(GOLA)exam

Progress of your work will be assessed throughout the course by your tutor and LSA (if appropriate) via observations. Your progress will be recorded on individual learning plans (ILPs) and tutorials with your tutor.

A level 1 in Creative Craft (Floristry) or good experience is required. Assessment for applicants is based on an interview exploring prior experience, interest and ambition. Literacy and numeracy is also considered with the completion of an on-line initial assessment. Please allow up to 2 hours for this to take place.

Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, we are working under new social distancing guidance and we will be introducing blended learning. This is a way of learning remotely without being in regular face-to-face contact with your tutor in a classroom setting. You will be using online and video platforms to help you achieve this. Your tutor will work closely with you to complete your course.

Please bring a pen and notebook to the first session. You will need a floristry workbox and folders to hold your work, but please do not purchase any items before the first session. *The cost of flowers for your course is £12 per week, which you pay weekly at reception. If you are on a means tested benefit you will only have to pay for flowers if you choose to take them home. This choice must be made at the start of the lesson, with the receipt given to your Tutor for proof of payment.

You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, on-line questionnaires and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices. You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which your tutor will discuss with the class at the start of your course.

If you are interested in enrolling on any of our courses please contact one of our centres. You will be able to pay by cash, card or cheque (made payable to London Borough of Hillingdon). Please note – the course will only go ahead subject to sufficient enrolments.
You will be expected to attend every session, please let us know of any planned absences before you start the course. Carers that come with learners will be expected to read and agree to ground rules.
