Hatha Yoga Beginners
The intent of this course is to introduce the practice of yoga. This is a practical course for those new to yoga or with less than 6 months experience. It is designed to improve your strength, flexibility and body awareness, and you will learn basic breathing and relaxation techniques. Basic yoga terminology and the philosophy of yoga will be introduced.

At the end of the course you should be able to -
• Be able to practice a number of basic yoga postures
• Practice basic breathing techniques
• Be able to use a number of relaxation techniques
• Identify how to practice yoga safely

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, tasks and exercises. Your progress will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

The course is suitable for beginners, although if you are a complete beginner you may be interested in attending our 'Get Started with Yoga: Breathing, Body and Mind' course first.

You will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire at the first class. All details are confidential. If you have a medical condition you should talk to your doctor before enrolling on the course. If pregnant it is advisable not to start yoga until after the third month.

If you have a yoga mat please bring this with you, or alternatively a blanket to lie on. You should wear lightweight loose-fitting clothing and you will be practising in bare feet. Please bring sufficient water water with you to ensure you stay hydrated.

After completing this course you can progress to the Hatha Yoga Intermediate course.

You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which your tutor will discuss with the class at the start of your course.
