Get Started with Dressmaking: Alterations and repairs
The intent of this short course is to give you the skills and ideas to alter and repair your clothes, extending the lifespan of your wardrobe. So, if you’d like to be able to shorten that dress, turn jeans into shorts or take in that skirt, then this is the course for you!
In the first session you will be shown how to use the sewing machine and various sewing techniques in order to adjust/alter garments. The second week you can bring along a garment(s) that you wish to repair/alter.

At the end of the course you should be able to:
- Use the sewing machine
- Complete a selection of sewing techniques by hand and machine
- Repair/alter a garment

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, tasks and exercises. Your progress will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.
