Get Started with Millinery: create your own fascinator or headpiece
The intent of this course is to introduce the learner to basic millinery techniques using sinamay – one of the most popular materials used in millinery to create a fascinator/head piece suitable for a wedding or Ascot!

At the end of the course you should be able to:
· Complete a selection of millinery stitches/techniques
· Use sinamay to create a base
· Attach trimmings
· Select a suitable method to secure fascinator/headpiece (comb, elastic or headband)
· Create a fascinator/headpiece
· Work safely and effectively when using tools, equipment and materials.

Your tutor will monitor your progress through observation, tasks and activities and give you ongoing feedback to support you.

Complete beginners welcome, no experience required

You will need a pen, paper, and be required to purchase sinamay and basic sewing equipment with costs to be approximately £20 (depending upon chosen materials). Advice and guidance will be given at the first session. You are welcome to bring trimmings and sewing materials you may already have to the class. Materials will be supplied for the first session but learners must purchase their own for the second session. A list of suppliers will be given at the first class.

This course will enable you to develop your creative skills but does not lead directly to employment. If you are interested in turning your creative skills into a business, you may be interested in our 'Start your own Business' courses
