Sewing and Dressmaking, Mixed Level: create your own blouse/shirt or simple top -ARS1026
The intent of this course is to create your own blouse/shirt or simple top which fits well and is constructed to a high standard using a commercial pattern. The course is mixed level (beginners and intermediate). Throughout the course you will discover a range of techniques you can apply to produce your own blouse/shirt/top under the guidance of your tutor.

Open What will I learn?

At the end of the course you should be able to -
- Use a commercial pattern
- Apply a range of sewing techniques
- Produce a blouse/shirt or simple top to a high standard
- Use tools and equipment safely

Open How will I be assessed?

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, group discussion, evaluations (including self-evaluation), tasks and exercises, and through your finished garment.
You will record your progress on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

Open What experience or qualifications do I need to start this course?

This course is designed for people who want to further their knowledge and skills in constructing garments. You will need to have previous experience in using a commercial pattern, constructing garments and a keen interest in the subject.
If you are a complete beginner, please try one of our 'Get Started' or 'Beginner' classes in sewing and dressmaking.

Open Is there anything I need to bring? Are there any other costs?

You will need to purchase your own material. Please do not purchase any items until the first session, when your tutor will give you advice. If you have your own sewing tools, please bring these with you.

Open Can I get extra help?

Yes. If you think you might need some additional support with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff for more information about our learning support offer.

Open What job opportunities could this lead to?

This course gives you the opportunity to obtain sewing skills but does not lead directly into employment. If you are interested in gaining work in this area, please enquire about qualification sewing courses. If you are interested in turning your creative skills into a business, you may be interested in our 'Start your own Business' courses.

Open How will I be able to give my views on the course?

We welcome views from our learners in a number of ways. You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, on-line questionnaires and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices. You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which your tutor will discuss with the class at the start of your course.
