Gardening Basics (Term 3)
The intention of this course is to improve wellbeing and confidence through an introduction to the basics of gardening. You will learn about plants, and nurture and care for plants grown from seed. Health and Safety, maths, English and digital skills are embedded on this course.

Throughout this course you will develop, practice and consolidate some or all of the skills below with or without support:
-Access and develop the use of online learning for classwork and homework
-Care for plants as they grow
-Weed a flower/vegetable bed
-Identify crops to be harvested
-Complete your portfolio/or storyboard to record the work you have completed this term.

Prosp User 3
Progress of your work will be assessed throughout the course by your tutor through your contribution to classwork, taking part in discussions, observations, practical tasks, creating a file (portfolio of work) or a storyboard. Your progress will be recorded on individual learning plans (ILPs) and you will have tutorials with your tutor.
Depending on the work you produce on this course, it might be displayed in our centres or at the Festival of Learning event at the end of the year.

You will need to want to increase your knowledge in this subject.
You should be able to respond to simple instructions and participate in the class activities in your own way and these can be with support if required.

The course will only go ahead subject to sufficient enrolments. You will be expected to attend every session, so do not book holidays in term time and please let us know of any planned absences before you start the course. If you do not attend for 2 consecutive weeks, you may be withdrawn and this will reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.
Please be aware that you will have to use online learning for classwork and homework and you might need some help to access this at home.

You may need a supply of paper, pens and a ring binder. Please do not purchase any items before the first session. Your tutor will let you know what you need to bring. We would like to encourage you to bring your own healthy snacks and refreshments.
Yes. If you think you might need some additional support with your learning, you can ask your tutor or the Centre staff for more information about how we can best support you. But as we get to know you on your course, we will provide the support you need.

You can consider building on the skills you have developed on this course through some of the other courses we offer in various subjects which you might find useful. Your teacher will discuss this with you as you progress through this course.

There are no specific job opportunities, however this will enhance your practical skills and could improve your employability skills such as working as part of a team and communication skills.

You can share your views in a number of ways. You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, on-line questionnaires and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices. You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which the tutor will discuss with the class at the start of the course. All ALDD course reps are invited to our termly Forum to share the views of their classmates.
