Community Interpreting Level 2
The intent of this course is to develop learners' basic knowledge of community interpreting and provide them with the learning they need to use their language skills effectively. The course is for bilingual people who are fluent in their native language and speak English at level 1 Functional skills. Learners on this course will either have already completed an introductory course in community interpreting and/or will have some experience of informal interpreting but need more time to develop their interpreting experience, knowledge of public services and academic skills before moving on to the Level 3
As a Community Interpreter you can help making a difference to people’s lives; in many cases, members of these communities have a limited grasp of spoken English. Often it is necessary for those in the community with stronger communication skills in English to act as a bridge between these people and the wider community.
This course runs over two terms and it is important that you are punctual and attend all the sessions. All classes are asked to complete the Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey at the beginning and end of their course. This enables us to see whether learning has a positive impact on wellbeing and it also enables us to identify and help people who need support.
