Get Started with Painting: Working with Oils
The intent of this beginners' course is to introduce you to techniques and methods used in oil painting, a creative skill that can be beneficial for your wellbeing.
To start with you will work tonally, exploring how to lay watercolour washes and how much paint and water to use. You will explore painting a variety of subjects, including still life, landscapes, plants and figures.

By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Produce several pieces using oil paint
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of colour mixing and colour theory using oil paints
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of proportion and composition to plan your pictures

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, tasks and exercises. Your progress will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

Please do not purchase any items before the course begins, your tutor will advise you on suitable materials during your first session. If you already have any oil paints, paper or brushes, please bring these with you.

- Another Creative Skills course.

The course teaches a creative craft skill and does not lead directly to employment. If you would like to turn your creative skills into a business you may be interested in our 'Start your own Business' courses.

You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which your tutor will discuss with the class at the start of your course.
