Introduction to sustainable gardening
The intent of this course is designed specifically for learners who have little or no experience with gardening to develop knowledge, investigate creativity and enhance social and employability skills. Join us for a fun and instructive course, using basic gardening and plant based activities that will improve health and wellbeing. This introductory course will help you investigate what you need to do to get started with using sustainable garden practices. This gentle course includes a beginner’s guide to soil improvement using peat free alternatives and how to recycle materials to use around he garden.
You are expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course, if you do not attend for 3 consecutive weeks, you may be withdrawn. This will also reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.
English, Maths and Digital Skills will be embedded in the course.
You are required to adhere to Health and safety requirements at all times.

The intention of this course is that you should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of:-
• What a susatinable garden is and ways of implementing various practices
• How to use various growing media and how this improves the soil
• How to successfully grow your own from seed

• Completion of Individual Learning Plans

No formal qualifications are necessary, just a keen interest in gardening.

Please note – the course will only go ahead subject to sufficient enrolments. You will be expected to attend every session, please let us know of any planned absences before you start the course.

Please bring along a pen and paper for note taking, a pair of secateurs and gardening gloves if you have them. You will also need to bring your own refreshments. You are advised not to purchase any materials or books until after the first session, as in the event of the class not running, no compensation can be given for expenditure incurred.
