The intent of this qualification course is to provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to make stitched samples using a sewing machine and accessories. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a 'Level 1 Award in Fashion (Sewing Machine Skills)' qualification.

By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Work safely and effecitvely using a sewing machine and accessories
- Identify the functions, controls and features on a sewing machine
- Identify the characteristics of materials required to make samples
- Produce samples using a sewing machine

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, group discussion, evaluations (including self-evaluation) and through your finished garment. tasks and exercises. Your progress will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you. As this is a qualification course, you will also complete assessments which will contribute towards the achievement of the qualification.

Before enrolling you on this course, you will need to complete an initial assessment to ensure that this is the correct level for you.
You will need:
- Entry level 3 English Skills
If you don’t yet meet the pre-course requirements, we may recommend other courses which will support you to progress and achieve your goal.

This course may include some elements of blended learning, you will be given further details during your first session. You will receive an induction to online learning at the beginning of your course and your tutor will work with you to develop the skills you need to successfully learn online. Additional support will also be available to you, if required. In order to take part you will need to have access to the internet and a laptop or personal computer. You will be able to book computer access in centres if you don’t have a computer and/or internet access at home or may be able to borrow a device through our Loan and Learn Scheme (subject to availability).

You will need to purchase materials and equipment in order to complete this course. Your tutor will advise you during your first session, please do not purchase any materials until this point.

This course allows you to learn, develop and practice creative skills required for career progression in the fashion sector. Further qualifications may be required to gain employment in this field.
