Get Started with Photography: Smartphone Photography
The intent of this course is to discover techniques to take better photographs on your smartphone. Do you use your phone to take photos of those important moments but struggle to capture the perfect shot? This short course will help you to get the most out of your phone's camera and you will discover techniques and functions that will help you to capture the picture you want.

At the end of the course you should be able to:
- Identify the functions available on your own smartphone camera
- Identify suitable modes for taking photos in a range of scenarios
- Identify and apply simple composition techniques
- Capture photos of a range of subjects

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, tasks and exercises. Your progress will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

This course may include some elements of blended learning, you will be given further details during your first session. You will receive an induction to online learning at the beginning of your course and your tutor will work with you to develop the skills you need to successfully learn online. Additional support will also be available to you, if required. In order to take part you will need to have access to the internet and a laptop or personal computer. You will be able to book computer access in centres if you don’t have a computer and/or internet access at home or may be able to borrow a device through our Loan and Learn Scheme (subject to availability).

Please bring your phone, ensuring it is well-charged for the session. Please note that camera specifications vary depending on the make and model of your smartphone, your tutor will support you to get the most out of the functions available on your device.

This course does not lead directly to employment. If you are interested in working with digital media, you may be interested in our Start your own business: Introduction to digital promotion course. You many need further qualifications to progress into employment in this area.
