Build your Basic Digital Skills
"The intent of this course is to support you to develop your basic digital skills for everyday life.
This course is designed for complete beginners and is suitable for people who have very little or no experience using computers or digital devices. Through these five sessions you will have the opportunity to practise and develop your confidence using technology for basic tasks. "

At the end of this course you should be able to:
• Turn on a device (including entering and updating any account information safely, such as a password)
• Use the available controls on a device (such as a mouse and keyboard for a computer, or touchscreen on a smartphone or tablet)
• Make use of accessibility tools (including assistive technology) to make devices easier to use (such as changing display settings to make content easier to read)
• Interact with the home screen on a device
• Connect to the internet (including Wi-Fi) safely and securely
• Open a browser
• Open and access an application on a device.

Your tutor will assess your learning throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, tasks and exercises. Your progress will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

This course is suitable for complete beginners, you do not need any experience or qualifications in IT. You will need a reasonable level of written and spoken English.
Prosp User 5
Attendance and punctuality are vital to your progress and success in your learning. Therefore, you are expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course. You will also need to be able to submit assignments by the deadlines set by your tutor, which you will complete outside of the weekly class time. All classes are asked to complete the Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey at the beginning and end of their course. This enables us to see whether learning has a positive impact on wellbeing and it also enables us to identify and help people who need support.

This course is designed to improve your basic digital skills and confidence and could form your first steps in developing your digital skills, which can be used in everyday life, learning and work.

You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, on-line questionnaires and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices. You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which your tutor will discuss with the class at the start of your course.
