Drawing & Painting
The intent of this course is for learners to build on their existing skills and knowledge of drawing and painting. Learners will explore drawing and painting a range of subjects, from still life, landscapes, from plants to figures. Initially you will be working tonally exploring how to draw proportions accurately and experimenting with composition. Later you will be introduced to watercolour. Tuition is given one to one and small groups with demonstrations throughout, accompanied by step-by-step guidelines for those who want extra guidance.

At the end of the course you should be able to -
• Develop objective drawing skills and start creating tonal drawings
• Develop several line and tonal drawings
• Produce at least one completed watercolour/acrylic painting
• Work safely with art equipment

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, tasks and exercises. Your progress will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

This course is designed for people who want to further their knowledge and skills in drawing and painting. Some painting experience is essential. If you are a complete beginner, please try one of our 'Getting Started' classes in drawing or painting.

This course may include some elements of blended learning, you will be given further details during your first session. You will receive an induction to online learning at the beginning of your course and your tutor will work with you to develop the skills you need to successfully learn online. Additional support will also be available to you, if required. In order to take part you will need to have access to the internet and a laptop or personal computer. You will be able to book computer access in centres if you don’t have a computer and/or internet access at home or may be able to borrow a device through our Loan and Learn Scheme (subject to availability).

Pencil- 2B & 2H, sketchpad, putty rubber, 00 sandpaper; this can cost as little as £5.00. You will need to purchase a basic watercolour set (paint and brushes) for the course but will need to discuss this with the tutor during the first week, so please do not purchase the watercolour set before the first session. Cost for a basic watercolour set with paper and brushes and inks, £25.00 approx. Please do not purchase any items before the first session.

After the course you can to progress onto other creative courses or could progress onto one of our 'Start your own business' courses to learn about turning your creative skills into a business.

You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, on-line questionnaires and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices. You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which your tutor will discuss with the class at the start of your course.
