Creative Writing - 3
This course offers a progression from the Creative Writing term 2 course, and it is suitable for learners working at an intermediate level of creative writing looking to hone their skills and progress to publication. Learners will need to have a very good grasp of English and some experience of creative writing, at least at functional skills level 1, as the course will not cover the basics of grammar and vocabulary.

At the end of this course you should be able to:
• Undertake longer and more demanding writing projects, completing an independent writing project in your chosen medium (poetry, scriptwriting of fiction)
• Work with subtext to create rich, layered stories and / or poems
• Produce 1 piece of genre fiction or scriptwriting
• Give feedback, discuss ideas and share others’ creative journey
• Edit and develop your own and others’ work through redrafting and workshopping work-in-progress
• Identify suitable publication opportunities for your work

Your tutor will assess your learning and progress throughout the course through ongoing observation, question and answer, tasks and exercises. Your progress will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and your tutor will provide you with ongoing feedback to support you.

This course is not for complete beginners. You must have a good command of the English language; speaking, reading and writing. Learners will need some experience of creative writing and have an understanding of the basic techniques used in creating stories, scripts and poems. You will need to have basic ICT skills, such as opening and saving files and internet searches.

This course may include some elements of blended learning, you will be given further details during your first session. You will receive an induction to online learning at the beginning of your course and your tutor will work with you to develop the skills you need to successfully learn online. Additional support will also be available to you, if required. In order to take part you will need to have access to the internet and a laptop or personal computer. You will be able to book computer access in centres if you don’t have a computer and/or internet access at home or may be able to borrow a device through our Loan and Learn Scheme (subject to availability).

This course gives you the opportunity to become confident at writing creatively but does not lead directly into employment.

You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which your tutor will discuss with the class at the start of your course.
