Summer Contemporary Designs
The intent of this course is for the more advanced learner, to build on prior knowledge, enhance your creative and employability skills and add to your professional portfolio. If you are looking for a more contemporary take on the world of floral design, then this is the course for you. Whether you are developing your skills, re affirming prior knowledge or looking for creative inspiration, join us for a fun and instructive 10 week course. Suitable for candidates who have completed the Flower Arranging for Fun courses or those who have prior knowledge of arranging flowers.

English, Maths and Digital Skills will be embedded in the course.
Please note: All learners are expected to attend 100% of their course and arrive 15 minutes before their class starts. If you do not attend for 3 consecutive weeks, you may be withdrawn. This will also reduce your chances of joining another course in the future.
All classes are asked to complete the Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey at the beginning and end of their course. This enables us to see whether learning has a positive impact on wellbeing and it also enables us to identify and help people who need support.

Open What will I learn?

At the end of the course, you will have learnt to -
● Adhere to health and safety requirements in the workshop.
● Identify seasonal flowers and foliage (summer).
● Demonstrate correct conditioning techniques of seasonal plant materials.
● Plan, prepare and create a variety of summer inspired designs.
● Display creations of work correctly.
● Photograph designs to produce as evidence on individual learning plan (ILP).

• Practical observation.

Open What experience or qualifications do I need to start this course?

No formal qualifications are necessary, just a keen interest in floristry and flowers.

Open Important Information

Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, we are working under new social distancing guidance and we will be introducing blended learning. This is a way of learning remotely without being in regular face-to-face contact with your tutor in a classroom setting. You will be using online and video platforms to help you achieve this. Your tutor will work closely with you to complete your course.

Open Is there anything I need to bring? Are there any other costs?

On the first session you will need to bring floristry scissors and £15 to cover the cost of the flowers. Please expect to pay between £5 and £20 a week on flowers at wholesale prices. This, of course will depend on your individual taste and access to foliage.

Open Can I get extra help?

Yes. If you think you might need some additional support with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff for more information about how we can best support you.

There are several routes with which you can take. The horizontal path onto any other Contemporary Design or Flower Arranging Courses. We also offer several Level 1, 2 and Level 3 qualification Floristry classes. Please ensure you are on our mailing list to receive the most up to date information on courses. Open What job opportunities could this lead to?

There are no specific job opportunities, however this will enhance your creative skills and could improve your employability skills such as working as part of a team and communication skills.

Open How will I be able to give my views on the course?

We welcome views from our learners in a number of ways. You can give your views through your ILP, course evaluation forms, on-line questionnaires and our Compliments, Comments and Complaints forms which can be found in Centre offices. You may also choose to become a course representative for your class, which your tutor will discuss with the class at the start of your course.
