Preparing to Work in a Homebased Childcare (Childminding)
The intent of this course is to prepare you to set up a home-based childcare setting, or be employed in home-based roles such as childminding assistants, nannies or au-pairs. As well as gaining new knowledge relevant to childcare, such as safeguarding and children’s learning and development, this course will support you to develop the necessary skills to meet registration requirements to set up a home-based child care service such as developing policies and procedures. You will also learn basic business skills, including writing a business plan and learn about financial and taxation requirements associated with a home-based childcare business. Completion of this course will enable prospective childminders to register with Ofsted as a home-based childcare provider. All classes are asked to complete the Emotional Health and Wellbeing survey at the beginning and end of their course. This enables us to see whether learning has a positive impact on wellbeing and it also enables us to identify and help people who need support. Please note: All learners are expected to attend 100% of their course and to arrive 15 minutes before the start of their class. If you do not attend for 3 consecutive weeks, you may be withdrawn. This will also reduce your chances of joining another course in the future. You will also need to ensure that you allow sufficient time for self-study and complete any homework set, we would recommend 4 – 5 hours per week.
